The procedure itself is not painful β it is performed under local anesthesia (numbing), just like having a filling or extraction. Many patients also choose sedation dentistry to relax during the surgery.
- During the procedure:
- Your mouth is numbed completely
- You may feel pressure but not sharp pain
- With sedation, you may feel drowsy or remember little of the procedure
- After the procedure:
- Some discomfort is normal for 3β7 days after surgery
- Most patients describe it as mild to moderate β similar to a tooth extraction
- Pain is well managed with over-the-counter pain relievers (ibuprofen) or prescribed medication
Recovery Experience
- Days 1β3: Some swelling and mild pain; ice packs and pain medication help
